UFC 198 Predictions: WERDUM VS MIOCIC

Werdum vs Miocic

UFC 198 Fight Predictions

Werdum vs Miocic Miocic vs Werdum

It has been announced Fabricio Werdum is going to be defending his heavyweight belt at UFC 198. His challenger in the octagon will be Stipe Miocic, and it will be the first time that Werdum will have defended his title since taking it from former Champion Cain Velasquez. The Brazilian is based in LA, and he will be in for a tough night against rising star Miocic.

Werdum has not defended his title since winning it by submission back in June 2015. At 38 years old he is entering his twilight years and will want to hold onto his title for as long as possible. He is fighting a fighter who is five years younger at 33 years old, and this could be a factor if it goes to the later rounds. Werdum has looked unstopped and is currently on a win streak of six in a row. He has not been defeated in 5 years and during that time, he has beat huge names in the sport. These include Roy Nelson, Travis Browne, Mark Hunt, Alistair Overeem, Fedor Emelianenko and Gabriel Gonzaga. He will be hoping that he can carry this fine form into UFC 198.

Werdum will be hoping that his experience will be enough to keep his challenger at bay. He has dedicated his whole life to the sport, and no one has worked harder to get where he is now. Werdum is a well-rounded fighter and is comfortable both on the feet or taking it to the ground. The fighter has a solid chin and can take punishment but still been able to move forward.

Werdum is like a fine wine; he gets better with age. Most fighters by the time the get to 38 years old have hung up their gloves or are on the decline. Werdum is the exception to this rule and continues to improve year on year. He trains with some of the best UFC martial artists in the game which has helped him develop into one of the best the sport has seen.

Miocic was raised in Croatia and gifted at sport from an early age. He had a golden gloves title to his name and competed in the Cleveland State Division 1 wrestling division. Miocic did not turn professional in MMA until 2010. After an impressive win streak of six in a row, the UFC noticed and signed him up. During his time in the octagon, he has amassed eight wins and two losses during his career in the UFC. After winning his first three fights, a loss by TKO to Stefan Struve set him back. The fighter managed to bounce back from that loss and went on to win another three in a row. That raised him to the top of the ranking and secured a big money fight against Junior dos Santos. It was the Fight of the Night, and he was unlucky to lose by points.

The loss to Junior dos Santos happened back in December of 2014. Since then he has fought Mark Hunt and Andrei Arlovski. Both fights he looked very impressive and beat both by way of TKO. At 33 years old, he is at his peak and may never get another chance at the title.

Both fighters have shown in their previous fights that they are not afraid to stand and bang. They both have knockout power and can take a punch. Miocic should have the slight advantage if it stays on the feet but if it goes to ground, he will be in for a long night.

Vitor Belfort vs. Ronaldo Souza

VITOR BELFORT VS RONALDO SOUZA

In the co-main event at UFC 198, two Brazilians will fight it out. Submission artist Souza will take on KO artist Belfort over three rounds in the middleweight division. Both fighters are highly experienced and have over 20 fights each in the UFC. They have both also around the same age with Belfort at 38, two years older than his opponent.

Both fighters have completely different styles, and it will be interesting to see which one comes out on top. Belfort has KO`d his way to the top of the middleweight division and out of 25 fights, he has won 18 of them by way of KO. Souza is not known for his knockout power but is arguably the best BJJ artist in the UFC. Out of 22 fights he has won 16 by way of submission.

Jacare is the betting favorite and has gone eight years without been stopped by way of strikes. He will have to keep up that form if he is to win against KO artist Belfort. If Vitor can connect with one of his punches, he has an excellent chance of winning.

Matt Brown vs. Demian Maia

MATT BROWN VS DEMIAN MAIA

Maia has won four in a row and will be looking to continue this run against Brown. Demian looked outstanding in his last fight against Gunnar Nelson, who he dominated at UFC 194. Brown has been out injured for a long time, and this will be his comeback fight. In November last year, he was supposed to face Kelvin Gastelum but picked up an injury to his ankle which forced him to pull out of the fight. Nate Marquardt vs. Thiago Santos

Marquardt had a dreadful start to his UFC career. At UFC 182 he lost to Brad Tavares by decision and was taking so much punishment at UFC 188 against Kelvin Gastelum, that his corner threw the towel in to stop the fight in the second round. Everyone was ready to write him off until he managed a second round KO of C.B. Dollaway.

Santos, on the other hand, has fared much better and out of his last five he has won four. The winner of the Brazil Ultimate Fighter is now on a three-win streak.

After a quick submission loss to Cezar Ferreira at UFC 163, his official promotional début, he stopped Ronny Markes with a first-round TKO. He beat Steve Bosse and Andy Enz in the first round and in his last fight KO`d Elias Theodorou by way of head kick back in December.

Patrick Cummins vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Cummins is now 35 years old and will be looking for his next chance of moving up the rankings so he can put his name in the hat for a title chance. He was on a run of 4 – 1 until he lost back in November by TKO to Glover Teixeira. All of Cummins defeats have come by way of KO, and he will be hoping to avoid being knocked out again.

Nogueira joined the UFC back in 2009 and had had many setbacks due to injuries. At 39 years old he can not afford another defeat so it makes it a must win fight. Over the last five-year he has managed a record of 2 – 4 and will be fancied by many to get the victory.

If Usman is going to be considered a serious contender for the title, he will need to beat Moraes in style. It is going to be a tough battle for him as he faces submission artist Moraes who has won almost all his battles by way of submission.

UFC 198 is going to be an exciting card and one fight fans will enjoy watching. There have been an number of additions added to the event. Below we go into details of the extra fights added to the card:

Anderson Silva vs Uriah Hall

Anderson Silva vs Uriah Hall Screen Shot 2559-04-07 at 13.26.20

Anderson Silva may be in his final years as a professional MMA fighter, but he still is one of the most exciting to watch. The former pound for pound UFC legend will take on up and coming Uriah Hall in Brazil on the 14th of May. Hall has been compared to Silva in the past and will be hoping that he can prove that he is better than his opponent. It is not the Silva of old though so Hall will have it easier meeting him now rather than when he was in his prime.

The fight is due to take part in Silva’s hometown in the Curitiba soccer stadium. It will be the first time that a UFC event has been held there, and Silva will be hoping to perform well in front of his home fans. Is is hard to make UFC 198 predictions for this fight, but Silva should have the experience needed to get the win.

Silva has an impressive record in the UFC accumulating 22 wins, 7 loses and 1 no contest. In his last fight, he lost in a unanimous decision against Michael Bisping. The event was held in the UK where Bisping comes from and many thought that Silva won. In the third round, Silva came close to knocking Bisping out. It was the first time Silva had fought after returning from a one year ban for steroid use. The fight before that he won when he beat Nick Diaz in January 2015. That fight ended in a no contest due to Silva failing a drug test.

The failed drug test for steroid has damaged Silva`s reputation. At one point he looked unbeatable and recorded a 16 fight winning streak. During that period he managed to defend his title 10 times and beat the like of Chael Sonnen, Forrest Griffin, Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson.

Mauricio Rua vs Corey Anderson

shogun vs Anderson Rua vs Anderson

It was not that long ago after Mauricio Rua had to pull out of his fight against Rashad Evans. The fighter has had a number of knee injuries which has made it hard for him to compete. Hopefully, this time around he will stay injury free so that he can face Corey Anderson in a light heavyweight showdown.

Rua is on the comeback trail and will be hoping that he can follow up his win against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Before that fight it had looked like his career may be coming to an end as he suffered back to back losses to Ovince Saint Preux and Dan Henderson .

Anderson has an impressive record of 8 wins and only one loss. He will be the UFC 198 betting favorite for the fight. In his last outing in the octagon he squeezed past Tom Lawlor at UFC 196.

Justino vs Smith

cyborg vs smith Justino vs Smith

Justino will be a heavily backed UFC 198 betting favorite, and it will be a major upset if she loses her debut at the UFC. She is currently the Invicta FC champion and has won 15 fights in a row. The 30-year-old from Brazil was last beaten back in 2005 on her pro debut. She has knocked out her last nine opponents and will be looking to do the same to Smith.
Smith is a veteran in the sport and at 33 years old, she is coming to the end of her career. She is current 2 – 1 in the UFC which includes a win by TKO over Jessamyn Duke. Anyone making UFC 198 predictions will be expecting her to lose.

I think werdum has it in him too squeak out a win in decision but has a better chance to win if it goes too fence with him on top.

    Sousa win and \Miai win.

  2. Troy Alex Mackenzie says:

Good prediction Charles. After what happened to Brown during his fight against an expert grappler like Hendricks we can probably expect to see a similar result with arguably one of the top BBJ practitioners in the UFC in damien Maia. But the question being…will Maia be able to take Matt Brown down to the mat as he has been a bit weak in the department in the past IMO.
